Areas of Study
Stephanie engages in continual study to more deeply understand and enjoy the body in motion. Stephanie’s approach to utilizing what she has learned is to respect the mystery of the body while working toward understanding.
Pilates Method, founded by Joseph Pilates, is a system of movement that looks at the possibilities of movement and how to support them. Pilates
equipment is an astute tool for both facilitating movement that may be elusive and for clarifying and challenging the range, strength, connection and function of movement.
Body-Mind Centering®, founded by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, is an in-depth continual study of all aspects of the body. This discipline investigates each physical system (bones, muscles, ligaments, organs, nervous, endocrine, fluids) and their interrelatedness. Information is gathered and learned through rigorous study of anatomy, through touch, and through movement experience. Each person’s empirical experience is valued and feeds the body of knowledge. Through this work, you develop the ability to listen to your body and to trust what you learn.
Other Forms: Yoga, Dance, Improvisation, Experiential Anatomy, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Feldenkrais, Mindfulness.
The study of various movement forms gives us the opportunity to experience different movement patterns and rhythms. It allows us to revisit known movement and to enter the un-habitual. It offers the value of surprise and fresh challenge to our minds and our bodies.
